After reaching out to colleagues and friends who had heard about Toptal or had prior experience working for them, It felt like people/ big companies trust the brand TopTal for outsourcing their development to them.

The interview process is very generic and should be very subject to your profile. All they ask is Data structures and algorithms regardless of your skillset whether you are a frontend, backend or dev ops guy.

Can be very pricey, even for small projects.

Lots of companies to choose from! Set your own rate.

Sometimes the support staff and mostly recruiters at Toptal have their own agendas. They can br extremely misleading and difficult to work with.

They responded quickly. They guided right direction in every step.

They should have to give chances to those guys who are not from US.

Not a problem only some criteria that disqualifies the candidates even they are fit for position.

Job application process is not easy , you need to fill lot of details and even after that you won't get an opportunity. There are lot of other platforms available in the market where we can easily apply for the jobs.

I was using toptal to get a remote software engineer job.

Toptal is a platform for freelancers that vets talent before making it available. The vetting provides some additional validation of skills beyond simply reviewing resumes or trusting another organization or agency.

The vetting that Toptal performs favors more junior candidates (as most vetting/interviews do). Because of this, the platform is less for finding talent to debug more difficult problems but is heavily favored to helping to solve simpler tasks. While this isn't a show stopper, it does limit the usefulness of the platform.

Finding pre-vetted talent to complete well-scoped tasks of projects. The communication and quality of the project are better than other competitors and smaller projects can be quickly completed.

It easy to use. Clean and good business solution.

Toptal is new in market, need to improve performance.

Toptal resolve many problems but i like the most is its prevent un employment

You have a chance to work with various startups easily.

1) Machine Learning and AI jobs aren't that many. 2) Negative responses after the interview is given without detailed explanation. 3) Toptal charges the clients too much which optimizes the company's profit but the total cost is so high that clients are trying to hire talents directly and the Toptal developers are losing their long-term opportunities. This happened to me now and I want to resolve that issue before continuing on the next engagement.

It solves the issue related to payments. Also connection between client and developer is faster.

I love the UI, it works great everything is where you expect.

I don't like the load times for the software it can be a little taxing on older computers but newer ones should handle it no problem

It's a good place to look for work as a freelancer if you need it, and it is a great place to hire from as only as you do your own due diligence on each applicant.

Toptal is much more suited for finding top clients and is more vigorous with their screening process

Good customer service, pleasant experience, a lot of dev talents to find. We tried using their service earlier on when we were looking for a lead developer and worked with the support team for a month, but ended up not finding a good fit.

I don't believe a promo that I used was honored correctly & fairly. It was relegated to an accounting issue instead of a customer service matter, which is what I believe it was. Ultimately, it resolved itself, but the experience could & should have been better. To a person, each Toptaler we have engaged as been technically sound. However, in one instance, there was poor communication / expectation setting regarding the Toptaler's availability and ability to complete a project. Again, we ultimately resolved it satisfactorily, but the experience could have been better.

Hiring talents for a small startup team. It's a good place for short-term contractors but haven't had any luck with decent long-term hires.

They seem to have many jobs coming through, and seem to be higher quality than some other freelance job boards where its a race to the bottom. They will also reach out to you proactively for some jobs if the matcher identifies you as a possible match.

The biggest issue with using Toptal is just their take rate. In one instance, they asked me to lower my rate from $80/hour to $47/hour. It turned out that the client had a budget of $82/hour, and so they wanted to reserve $35/hour for their take rate. The engagement never happened because the client asked me if I could lower my rate further, which is when they told me what their budget was. When I brought up the issue with the matcher, and mentioned that the client was still interested, instead of working toward making the engagement happen, I was 'coached' about not talking about rates. I was on a longer engagement, and that one ended up falling apart because Toptal was charging them $110/hour and only paying me $75/hour. The client ran out of funding. Its hard to have long term relationships when a solid $35/hour is being taken off the top. I understand that they need to make their business profitable, but 35-50% is excessive. There were also many times that I would put in a bunch of work applying for an engagement, and I would either not hear anything, or the engagement would be cancelled before interviews. It usually takes atleast 15-20 minutes to do a good application, so it can be a real time suck to do those without any response. There are also times when the screening is just not there. I did an interview with someone who had a $6k budget to basically make magic happen. When you Wadyider that Toptal is going to take half of that budget, there was just no way that the work could be done in the week or two that they could have afforded. A matcher should have identified that before putting the work on the platform, as I was able to identify the issue in 15 mintues.

I am not good at finding clients as a freelancer, and they are able to find business, and have a good platform to match clients and freelancers. They were able to find work for me that I would not have been able to do myself. However, due to the issues with the platform, I will no longer be freelancing.

The 2nd developer seemed much more organized than the 1st, but he bailed a week and a half after agreeing to do the work.

Spent 6 weeks trying to get a website migrated and went through two developers who never performed. They refunded my deposit and gave me a credit towards future work (which is way less than the potential revenue lost). They seem to have very little ability to track actual progress with the people that are working for them. One guy simply ghosted us, and the second guy bailed after a week and a half of "work".

They haven't solved anything for us, and the benefit was negative.

There is nothing good to say from our experience of dealing with them.

Discriminatory practices against companies with offices in Ukraine

We are a British company with offices in Ukraine. When our Ukrainian CIO had an introductory call with the Total sales team he was told that Toptal.com will not work for companies with offices in Ukraine, despite reiterating the point that we are first and foremost a British company. I am at a loss as to why Toptal.com would chose to discriminate against Ukraine of all countries right now.

There is nothing I like about this company.

They are fake, greedy, and not at all what they appear to be on the surface. Toptal wanted to charge me over $20,000 per month for a React developer with five years of experience. Looking through some of the other reviews online, I can see that almost everyone recommends avoiding this company, and the ones that don't have obviously been hired by them to leave fake reviews.

I've given up on trying to resolve anything with them. It's a waste of time. I'd rather invest that time here, leaving a negative review.
